• MSc Clinical Animal Behaviour – completed, awaiting thesis results
My dog training journey began in 2018 when I rescued my first dog Rufus, a Romanian street dog. Sadly we only spent ten months together until he lost his battle with epilepsy. Rufus taught me the joys and heartbreak of caring for a dog and although we were only together for a short time, he ignited my goal to deepen my understanding of dogs and to become a certified dog trainer.
Whilst studying with the
Victoria Stilwell Academy (VSA) in 2019 I rescued my second dog, Meg a rottie mix, who helped me hone my dog training skills. I owe my distinction to her inquisitive nature and love of dog treats. I am a proud graduate of VSA, I had the pleasure of learning from not only Victoria herself but from some amazing mentors too.
During COVID-19 and the several lockdowns, I undertook many hours of continued professional development into topics such as aggressive and fearful behaviours, scentwork, cognition and nutrition.
From 2022-2024, I studied a
Masters in Clinical Animal Behaviour from the University of Lincoln to build on my knowledge and practical skills in resolving problem behaviours and implementing behaviour modification plans. Modules covered development and regulation of behaviour, cognition, clinical skills and a thesis researching the topic of analgesics and problem behaviours in dogs.
I am a
Candidate Member of the
Fellowship of Animal Behaviour Clinicians (FABC), meaning I have gained the theoretical knowledge necessary for clinical practice and am preparing for independent accreditation as a clinical animal behaviourist. Currently, in the UK the only route to external, independent accreditation is through the
Certificated Clinical Animal Behaviour (CCAB) scheme which I will be applying for once I fill the assessment requirements.
