Training Techniques

All training techniques used by Scentsational Dogs are based on positive reinforcement and as such all techniques and methods used are kind, fair and reward based. Scentsational Dogs does not allow any form of harsh handling that cause pain, fear or intimidation to the dog, nor any aversive devices (including but not limited to choke chains, check chains, prong collars, spray collars, e-collars or any other device deemed unacceptable by Scentsational Dogs).

The Training Vault

All members are required to be approved by Scentsational Dogs prior to obtaining access. All learning resources including downloadable content, PDFs and videos are for personal use and are not intended for resale or distribution. Scentsational Dogs reserves the right to revoke access to any member without prior warning at any time.

Safety

Any instances of accident or injury must be reported at the time they occur. Please follow instructions at all times and do not use equipment if the trainer is not present. In the unlikely event of a dog on dog altercation please stand back and allow the trainer to deal with the situation. You are responsible for your dog at all times. Please ensure your dog is kept on a lead unless otherwise instructed to do so and that you keep hold of the lead throughout the class. Please do not allow your dog to roam freely around the classroom. Flexi leads (extending leads) are not permitted in class, to avoid injury.

Health and Vaccinations

All dogs and puppies must be suitably vaccinated against potential risk of disease, as well as being treated for internal and external parasites. There can be no guarantee that there is no risk of disease at any venue or when in contact with other dogs and equipment (such as toys). It is the owner’s/handler’s responsibility to ensure their dog is fully protected against the risk of disease. The decision not to do this is made entirely at your own risk. Please advise in advance of any session if your dog has been unwell or if they have been in contact with another dog infected with a contagious disease or if they appear to be unwell (e.g. vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, runny nose etc). Depending on the issue, it may be advisable for the session to be cancelled and re-arranged or the class missed. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure their dog is fit and healthy for training. If your dog has any known allergies or intolerances to certain foods please make the trainer aware before the start of the training session and provide appropriate, alternative treats for training.

Duty to Disclose

By undertaking any services with Scentsational Dogs you agree to have disclosed and will continue to disclose on an ongoing basis, all medical or other conditions, including but not limited to temperament concerns or behaviours that may affect, limit, or prevent your dog’s ability to participate in training.
Examples include but are not limited to:
1. recent treatment for fleas, worms, or infectious diseases
2. new or increased incidents of biting, snarling, or growling (at humans or other animals)
3. inability to come back when called whilst off lead when once was.

Dogs off lead

Dogs that are off lead during walks and training sessions are done so by your discretion. You agree to release Scentsational Dogs from all liability including its members, agents, managers and employees should your dog become lost, injured or otherwise harmed which may result from your dog being off lead. Scentsational Dogs agree to exercise all reasonable and due care to prevent injury or death to your dog while off the lead, however, in the event of injury / death, except those caused by reckless acts on the part of Scentsational Dogs, the company will not be held liable for such injury / death of your dog.

Bookings, Cancellations and Refunds

Payment is required in full upon booking a programme, one to one session, group class, course or workshop. If it becomes necessary for you to cancel a course, class, workshop or private lesson after you have booked and paid for it but before it has started, Scentsational Dogs requires 7 working days notice for a refund to be made. If you start the course or class and then cancel or fail to turn up, no refund will be made except in exceptional circumstances. This situation will be considered on a case by case basis. You may cancel your purchase within a period of 14 working days beginning the moment you place your order. However, there is no right of cancellation where the class, private lesson or behaviour consultation begins within a 7-day period. One to one sessions can be rearranged or refunded with at least 1 weeks notice. With less than 1 weeks notice, no refunds will be given (except for any travel charges paid but not incurred). In exceptional circumstances, a partial refund or rearrangement for a one to one session cancelled with notice of between 1 week and 48 hours may be made, at the sole discretion of Scentsational Dogs.

All pre-paid programmes and top-up training sessions must be delivered within 8 weeks of the initial training session. All one-off behaviour consultations must be delivered within 3 weeks of the first payment date. It is your responsibility to ensure all sessions are delivered within the allocated timeframe.

At times it may not always be possible to run training sessions weekly and time may need to be taken out of the programme for an extended period of time. In such instances, Scentsational Dogs must be contacted stating how long the break is considered to be and a proposed date of when training can begin again. Although Scentsational Dogs will try to accommodate such changes, termination of the service without a full or partial refund will be considered on a case by case basis.

If Scentsational Dogs must cancel a group class due to circumstances beyond their control (including but not limited to unforeseen circumstances/ adverse weather/ illness/ emergency), best efforts will be made to reschedule at another convenient time. This is subject to venue availability. Unfortunately, Scentsational Dogs is unable to offer a refund if the additional class is organised and clients are unable to attend. If, despite adverse weather conditions or any other issues, and a class goes ahead but you are unable to make it to the session, Scentsational Dogs cannot provide a refund or any kind of alternative session. In such cases, this will be treated as a ‘missed session’ on your part and you will simply be provided with any relevant follow-up information/ recap/ online content associated with the session for which you were unable to attend. If Scentsational Dogs are hosting another trainer or professional for workshops and training courses, there is a 'no refund' policy applied to these events.

Payments for dog walking, assisted vet visits and house visits are required upon booking. Cancellations for dog walks and house visits with less than 24 hours notice will not receive a refund. Cancellations of assisted vet visits with less than 48 hours notice will not receive a refund.

Suitability for Class Environment

Some dogs are not suited to a class environment due to over-arousal, fear, anxiety etc. This is not the same as a young puppy who is new to socialisation and is just a bit nervous. Dogs which are known to be reactive to other dogs or people will not be best placed in a class environment; it is simply not fair on the dog or the other attendees. If your dog is not suited to the class training environment now, Scentsational Dogs may be able to offer alternative solutions, such as one to one training sessions. If a dog is deemed by Scentsational Dogs to be particularly stressed or reactive, despite the efforts of the owner and/ or trainer, the owner will be asked to remove the dog from the class (for that session and/or the rest of the course), in the best interests of both the dog and the others attending. Therefore, if you are unsure how your dog will respond to a class/ group environment, or have any concerns, you should discuss this with Scentsational Dogs before booking on to a course as it may not be possible refund your course payment.

Children

Please ensure you and anyone attending with you respect the training space of other clients and their dogs. Children are welcome to attend training class, with appropriate adult supervision. There must be two adults for children aged 10 and under, to ensure that your puppy/dog has one adult’s undivided attention and that children do not approach or touch any dogs without appropriate supervision and permission. Young people under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Scentsational Dogs accepts no responsibility for children at training classes and it is the responsibility of the supervising adult to ensure their child’s safety at all times. Children must not be allowed to disrupt learning and Scentsational Dogs reserve to right to request a disruptive child leave the session and/or not attend any future classes.

Dog Walking, Home Visits and Home Alone Training

All dogs being exercised must be fully vaccinated and on a regular flea and worm control regime. All dogs being walked will undergo a trial period and Scentsational Dogs reserves the right to cancel the contract at any time and with immediate effect if the dog does not respond well to the walker. All dogs will be exercised on a lead unless prior agreement has been reached with Scentsational Dogs and a consent form has been signed. Scentsational Dogs will apply personal judgement and cut short a walk if necessary because of extreme weather conditions (i.e., heat, thunder storms) for the safety of both the dogs and the walker. If dogs require a quick towelling off after walks towels must be provided and left by the front door. Scentsational Dogs make adequate steps to ensure your home is safe and secure in your absence, however Scentsational Dogs cannot be held responsible for any burglaries or accidents caused by your pet(s). The client must provide Scentsational Dogs with the name and contact number of someone capable of making a decision relating to the pet(s) in an emergency. If the contact is not available Scentsational Dogs reserves the right to consult with a veterinary surgeon and then make a decision which is in the best interests of the animal. The client is responsible for any veterinary bills, no matter how they are incurred, whilst pets are in the care of Scentsational Dogs. Scentsational Dogs will care for your animals as you would, and whilst every effort to ensure your pet is well looked after in your absence, Scentsational Dogs cannot be held liable for any loss, injury or death to a pet either inside or outside of the home whilst in our care.
